However, Cream Cheese Frosting used to be the only frosting I would make. So, here’s the recipe for my homemade frosting first love.

Ingredients

1 (8-ounce) package of cream cheese (room temperature)

1 stick of unsalted butter (room temperature)

3-5 cups of powdered sugar

1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

Directions

Place the softened cream cheese and butter into a large bowl. Use a mixer (on medium speed) to cream the cream cheese and butter.

Add 1 cup of powdered sugar. Mix until creamy. Repeat for the remaining 2-4 cups of powdered sugar, mixing until creamy after each cup.

Add the vanilla extract. Mix on high speed until light and fluffy.

TIP – To achieve the desired sweetness, taste the frosting after adding a total of 3 cups of powdered sugar. If you would like it to be sweeter, add additional powdered sugar 1 cup at a time, mixing until creamy after each addition.

You can make variations of this Cream Cheese frosting recipe. If you would like it to be more tangy, substitute another package of cream cheese for the stick of butter.
